February 10, 2011

Dear fellow fire mechanics and mechanic association leaders,

In the very near future, the Denver Civil Service Commission in concert with Denver Fire Department Fleet Management will be hiring to fill a vacant fire mechanic position. I am contacting as many Fire Mechanic Associations as possible in order to spread the word. At DFD Fleet, we don’t have these openings very often. Unfortunately during the last few openings that we did have, our number of qualified applicants was surprisingly low. I believe one contributing factor was based on budget cuts in advertising and a failure to get the word out.

I’d like to make sure that is not the case this time around.

Please pass this information on to anyone you know who may have an interest in going through our testing process. If you have the ability to post this information on your association’s website or any other pertinent location, I would be truly grateful.

Since our testing process is run under very strict confidentiality rules from the Denver Civil Service Commission, I am not allowed to discuss any of the testing procedures. I would ask that any interested parties please visit www.denvergov.org/civilservice and watch for the upcoming announcement. The announcement will have all of the job qualifications and current salary information included. The tentative schedule is as follows;

· March 7th The announcement is posted

· March 14th The application period opens

· April 15th The application period closes

There will be a timeline of events available shortly from the Civil Service Commission. Many of the events would require being present here in Denver.

I am certainly available for contact at the number listed above for any questions about our fleet operation and the mechanic’s job itself.

I literally stumbled across an ad in the Denver newspaper classifieds over twenty years ago looking to hire for this very position. I had the qualifications, submitted my application, went through the lengthy testing process, and honestly can say it has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I hope you know someone looking for a chance at a rewarding career.

Respectfully,

Daniel Freix
Master Mechanic
DFD Fleet Management
